"We have a ton of "emergency googly eyes" for just these occasions" says Michelle F. Thanks for sending along this adorable little carrot pic!
As we are wrapping up the season we need a little laughter - we love what we do and are always a little sad as things wind down...

Hey 2022 CSA Full Share folks - we did it!!

ICYMI: Hey 2022 CSA Full Share and Team B Members!!
What a great season it has been! It's wild to think that the season is now coming to a close with your final delivery this Thursday, October 6th. Those of you that pushed out a week - you're final delivery will be October 13th.
Jon and I want to take a moment to express our true gratitude for taking this ride with us - to say this season was one filled with a few challenges would be an understatement. Heck, even before we were able to harvest and deliver your season's share - we moved to a new home, built a huge greenhouse, turned over new soil and then.....a long, dreary, cold and very, very wet Winter and start to Spring, followed by heatwaves!! What in the world??
But we did it and you did it, too!!
We want to ensure that everyone ends their season with their two totes (and perhaps you can bring those around town and help spread the good word about Jon the Farmer and what we got going on in the world of CSAs)! No need to put your tote out for your next delivery and make sure to keep the one that's provided with your share.
So....what's next?? Although the formal CSA season is closing up, we will continue the FreshList harvest offerings (for as long as it feels appropriate) to each person that has participated with us this year. We will be offering up Grab-n-Go options, with pick-up locations throughout North Seattle and Puyallup farm pick-ups. Members and FreshList folks will be the first informed of contents and location (and you can pre-purchase your share). You will also be able to purchase Rainy Day Bees honey, organic eggs and merchandise.
In the coming weeks we will be sending out a survey to help us know what went well and what could use some help. And be sure to start thinking about veggies you would like to see us grow next year - we are open to suggestion!
We hope that you will choose to renew your CSA membership in the Spring - but until then.....
Eat Well, Be Well!!
Oh...and check out our updated Foodie Page - y'all have been rocking it!!

High Bush Cranberry recipe

This weekend we asked CSA member, Anita to do a little experiment with Highbush Cranberries. Here's what she did:
"Jon the Farmer - Urban Farmer asked me to experiment with some Highbush Cranberries he gave me. Highbush cranberries aren't really cranberries at all, but more closely related to the serviceberry. They also have a very bitter taste. After doing some research I learned that these "cranberries" don't do well when heated, so it's best to use cold processing. Why? It turns out the seeds really kick up the bitterness when heated. With that in mind, I came up with the following recipe.
Highbush Cranberry Mojitos
1 pt Highbush Cranberries
1/4-1/2 cup sugar, depending on taste
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Mint
Ice
Rum
Rinse your highbush cranberries. There's no need to pick them off the stems, but be sure to remove any leaves. Place them in a pot or deep bowl. Add cold water until they are fully covered. Use an emulsion blender to fully crush all the berries. Strain into a pitcher and discard the stems, seeds, and pulp. Add sugar and lemon juice. To finish the cocktail, pour some liquid and one shot of rum in a shaker with ice and the mint; shake to mix. Pour into glass and serve."
While this drink looks refreshing, after some feedback and thought, they may not be something we will offer in the future, it's good to know we have someone in our Jon the Jon the Farmer - Urban Farmer world willing to give it a go.
