Our boy is proud of the wheat he grew! This was a project that began at his school in his science class, prior to the closure. We transplanted it and look at it now. Makes a for a sweet way to remember his teachers and friends. Success!!

From time to time, we find the need to re-introduce ourselves and let you in on a few secrets that make Jon the Farmer - Urban Farmer what we are....about 3 years ago, we began this journey of feeding our immediate community fresh, organic veggies & fruit that was grown IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD! With the support of our Land Donors (like Anita & Bj, Betty & Julianna - to name a few), we have been able to expand into other neighborhoods and spread this good work. As of now, we work with 19 Land Donors, one small farm (Stardust Farms) and some great food partners (Lagana Foods & Rainy Day Bees)!!
So how does it work? Well, we would be pulling the wool if we said it was easy. Each yard has it's own strengths and challenges, and because we do not use pesticides, but rather work with what nature already has going on, each order we deliver will take on it's own look. One week we may have 25 salad servings, and 12 squash, 42 carrots and 1 bok choy. Some of your food will have been harvested 2 days ago or 20 minutes before it hits your doorstep. You will see the wonderful remnants of Mother Earth at the roots of your turnips. You may have a few nibbles from the very creatures that help keep the soil naturally toiled. Heck....you might find a little guy from time-to-time (wash your produce)... But what you won't find is chemicals or food grown without intention. You won't find waste in what we do, either - as we deliver weekly donations to FamilyWorks and partners like Toby Joseph of Tacoma, focused on feeding Indigenous Peoples, not to mention our scholarship families who have fresh produce delivered each week. We are a small business, looking to share the abundance of some, with the community, as a whole. And we are fortunate to have you be a part of this. Thank you! #CommunityFood #SeattleIsReadyForChange #FreshIsTheBest #JonTheFarmerSeattle Limited Summer CSA Shares - Now Available!

Jon is one of the most devoted and doting fathers I have ever known. He is also one of the hardest working men, with a heart of gold. He does his best to be a good example of working on balancing the tough talks needed in our world right now, while learning as he goes. He strives to serve the world while he serves his family. #TheKidsGotAGoodOne #DadsAreRad #ILuckedOutForSure #5050MakingItHappen #ModernMan #JonTheFarmerSeattle #SeattleIsReadyForChange #CommunityFood
Love to get some love...
"We are enjoying this week's basket. The bok choy was a wonderful accompaniment to our mapo tofu with turkey. Cheers, Marta" #FreshIsTheBest #SeattleIsReadyForChange #PicsMakeUsHungry Please help us welcome Rob & Andrea Hoff of Stardust Farms to the Jon the Farmer community! Perhaps it was destiny when Jon connected with Rob & Andrea - as they have been at the forefront of urban farming before it was the "cool thing to do"! Their farm in Shelton has been an added bonus to the work that we do and it's a win-win-win for this community and beyond - as we work to fill the tummies of not only our CSA and FreshList members, but our food-insecure populations, too! Keep your eye out for their delicious carrots, tasty salad mixes, and more - all organic and harvested by Rob and Andrea, and of course Jon! Oh....and, we got catnip - who wants some!!!
#CommunityFood #FreshIsTheBest #SeattleIsReadyForChange #JonTheFarmerSeattle A message from partners, FamilyWorks - serving food and housing insecure populations:
We believe that Black Lives Matter. The FamilyWorks community is reeling in outrage and grief over the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and Ahmaud Arbery (and countless others). We acknowledge the centuries of anguish that our Black communities have had to endure. We are in solidarity with the protesters who are crying out against police injustice in Seattle and across the United States. We are committed as an organization to dismantle white supremacy and institutionalized racism within our community. Our mission is to connect individuals and families to nourishing food, essential resources, and a caring community, so people can build resiliency to meet life’s challenges. Since our beginnings we have followed participant-driven family support principles, focusing on: providing dignity and strengths-based empowerment programs that affirm cultural and racial identity, responding to emerging family and community needs, and advocating for systems and services that are fair, responsive, and accountable to those served. We are listening to our food bank constituents right now who expressed a desire to have their voices heard by policymakers. Many told us that a stamped and pre-addressed postcard to their elected officials would be a welcome method to voice their concerns. We want to continue to facilitate various methods of advocacy with and for our community. Our work at FamilyWorks can’t happen without an understanding of historical and current systemic forces of racism and oppression. Our ongoing anti-racism and equity work within the Staff, Board and Volunteers will be amplified as we carry out our food, resource and family support programs. We demand a just society for our Black, Indigenous, and other Communities of Color. In addition to continuously educating ourselves of the racial constructs that are set up to oppress People of Color, we need to learn how to have challenging conversations around race as a larger community. We believe that change needs to happen now. One place to start is to talk together and to talk to our children about race. We wanted to share with you this link to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History & Culture. What we do, and what we say, matters. FamilyWorks Staff and Board P.S. We all have ways in which we can show up to this on-going struggle for equality and justice for our Black & Brown brothers and sisters. Some of us can march, some of us can write letters and sign petitions, some of us can read and educate, some of us can donate moneys to justified causes, and for those of us with food as our capital - growing and feeding is what we have always and will continue to do. Today, we ask that you support Civil Eats - because looking out for the people that feed ALL of us is key! https://civileats.com/
