Great article about Urban Farming. Many folks ask us "what is this urban farming thing you do" and this touches on it. Of course, our model continues to be outside of the box - but that's cool with us!! https://medium.com/@…/the-rise-of-urban-farming-cf894db51784
Well the time has come - we have had our first full harvest and this week's featured good - Mustard Greens.
While we offered some mustard greens last year, this year it will be in more abundance, based on the feedback we received. But there have been a few folks that were hoping for a little guidance in how these spicy leaves can be prepared. Take a look at the link below for a great way to open up your taste buds!! https://food52.com/recipes/27058-spicy-mustard-green-pesto We welcome any recipe suggestions and tips! And as always, please - send us your photos to be posted online to help keep this awesome work moving forward!! Thank you! Dawn the Marketer Jon the Farmer (206)612-6895 On this Earth Day - we at Jon the Farmer - Urban Farmer wish to celebrate all that is good in our world. We also welcome you to take a look at this Seattle Time article featuring a local chef (who also happens to be an urban farmer), Ariel Bangs. We love her focus: health via healthy eating, as well as bringing good foods to her community. Urban food deserts are a real and growing reality - even in within our own city limits. Support a local urban farmer, today!! https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/ariel-bangs-donut-magnate-food-educator-and-healthy-eating-evangelist-to-the-seattle-areas-communities-of-color/?utm_source=marketingcloud&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Morning+Brief+4-22-19_4_22_2019&utm_term=Former%20Subscriber
Do you know about the "Dirty Dozen"? Well kale has just been added to the list due to pesticides that are being used in big-scale farming practices - but fear not - read the link to learn more about WHY kale is still good to go, when properly grown and when pesticides are avoided (hmmm....we know a local urban farmer who is all the way on board with non-pesticide use). https://www.motherearthnews.com/real-food/its-all-in-the-practice-taking-on-the-dirty-dozen-zbcz1904
