Eating healthy can be convenient and delicious - and you can feel good knowing you are supporting local, small food producers, too!
Hello from Jon & Dawn Larson
Jon the Farmer - Urban Farmer had its beginnings growing food in gardens scattered throughout North Seattle, Beacon Hill and South Park in 2018 - creating urban gardens in yards provided by #LandDonors. From the start, his intention of helping people grow food for themselves and their communities was a driving force - a passion. And in a short time, this vision blossomed resulting in 19 urban gardens actively growing during the COVID19 pandemic.
In an effort to create a more physically sustainable model, and taking into consideration the immersive education he received by growing food in so many microclimates, we realized it was time to buckle down and find a space of our own!
In 2021, Jon and the family purchased a quarter acre piece of land in Puyallup and began a new iteration of Jon the Farmer - Urban Farmer. While we continued to grow food for our CSA & #FreshList members and provide on-going support to our #LandDonors - we boosted our Food Bank contributions - moving us closer to our vision.
And now we meet the world that is 2025 and to say a lot has changed would be an understatement - on so many levels.
As you know, a big part of the work we do has been focused on combining the forces of our customers, our partner small food artisans, our fellow small food growers, and our food bank contract funding - to provide more and more people - of all walks of life - access to fresh food. This has been a mission that has sustained our family through many chapters, provided us purpose, and allowed us to be a part of a grassroots effort to improve our broken food system.
Sadly, 2025 has presented a very specific set of challenges to food growers of all sizes and philosophies - and our family farm is not immune. In addition to significant funding cuts, the increased cost of growing food in a responsible & sustainable manner has sky-rocketed - a financial one-two punch. In light of all of this, Jon has made the difficult decision to turn a portion of his attention away from the more-than-full-time work that is growing food & running a CSA, so that he can work off the farm.
So, while we're not going anywhere, this seems like a great time to remind you of just how very, very grateful we are for having your support! Whether you were one of our initial #LandDonors, a CSA or #FreshList member, or one of the many people that designed logos, spread the good word, and donated your time - each of you have had an impact on the greater community through your support of this great experiment.
Thank you!!!
If you have any questions, thoughts, ideas or ..... please reach out - we always appreciate the connection
